Composing
The majority of the composing work I've done thusfar is for animated television shows including The Wonder Pets (Nickelodeon), 3rd And Bird (Ceebies/BBC Worldwide), Oogloo & Anju (Cartoon Network), Go, Baby! (Disney Channel), Blue's Clues (Nickelodeon), and Sesame Street (PBS). I've won three Emmy awards for "Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition" for my work with The Wonder Pets in 2008, 2009, and 2010. I've also composed music for a varying degree of animated and live action shorts, independant films, documentaries, and promotional/corporate videos. I tend to lean towards acoustic instruments (though there are many exceptions), and I love work with a sense of humor and/or epic grandeur.
I have also done a large amount of foley (sound effects) and sound design work. My humble studio, the Blat-O-Box, can handle most or all of the recording needs for the music, sound design, and sound effects for your production.
These clips you see here only scratch the surface. If you would like to see a more complete example of my work, contact me and I can send you a password to the client area of this website.
Below are some of the very few clips I can show on the internet. Of interest:
- The music to Oogloo and Anju is generated by old 8-bit Commodore 64 computer hardware for a wonderfully trashy 80's video game sound.
- These cartoons were aired on Cartoon Networks' short lived "Sunday Pants" series in 2005.
- They were created and animated by the uber-talented Ariel Martian, who rocks beyond belief.
- The word "Anju" means "side dish" in Korean. (Specifically a dish to be had while drinking beer or soju.)
- "Man's First Friend" was created by the wonderfully multi-talented Allen Mezquida (also a top notch alto saxophonist.) I wrote the words and music to the song, and I also played trombone, ukulele, and sang on the recording.
- "Wishing You Were Here" is a reworking of a film created around 2002 by the extremely capable and creative team of Joel Lee Kulp and Aaron Christian Harms, a.k.a. IV Spectacles. This was some of my very first work in the field, and I still really like it.
As I said before I do have many more examples (documentary, live action, independent film, and of course, many more cartoons) I can show you if you are curious. Contact me and I'll be happy to show you more.
